Degenerative disc disease in the lumbar spine or low back is very similar to degenerative disc disease in the cervical spine or neck. Degeneration of the intervertebral discs is a normal occurrence. Symptoms of degenerative disc disease is dull, diffuse aching across the low back. It typically improves with movement, but become very stiff/achy once the individual stops moving.
